It is with jubilant expectation and heartfelt gratitude that we look forward to the celebration of the Canonical Coronation of the Blessed Virgin of Lourdes on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

The Triduum Masses

The Triduum Masses from August 19, Wednesday to August 21, Friday will be at 6:00 PM at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes.

The Mass Presiders are the present Superiors of the congregations who administered the churches where the venerated image was brought for safe-keeping during World War II. The Capuchin friars brought the image first to the San Agustin Church. Later it was transferred to the UST Church. And then to the Santa Teresita del Niño Jesus Church on Mayon Street, until it was finally brought to Lourdes Church.

It was our intent before the pandemic to have the triduum masses in the three churches but because of the Covid 19 pandemic we opted to celebrate all three at the Shrine and invite the three superiors of the congregations.

August 19, 2020 – Reverend Father Peter A. Casiño, OSA. He is the Regional Vicar of the Order of Saint Augustine-Vicariate of the Orient.

August 20, 2020 – Reverend Father Napoleon Sipalay, OP. He is the Prior Provincial, Order of Preachers.

August 21, 2020 – Reverend Father Eugenio Juanilo P. Lopez, OFMCap. He is the Provincial Minister of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. It was this Order that introduced the devotion to the Blessed Virgin of Lourdes when they arrived in the Philippines in 1886.

The Canonical Coronation on August 22, 2020

The Most Reverend Honesto F. Ongtioco, D.D. Bishop of Cubao will crown the venerated image of Our Lady of Lourdes during the High Mass that will start at 9:30 am.

Following the Mass will be veneration until 4 PM.

Procession

A procession will follow at 4 PM with the image accompanied only by the Capuchin brothers, religious priests, liturgical servers and technical staff of the carroza.

We discourage the faithful from joining the procession and ask them to wait for the procession to pass through its route with lighted candles praying the rosary. The route will be announced at a later date.

As a remembrance of the triduum masses, devotees may avail themselves of souvenir PASSPORTS bearing the history of the three churches where the image was kept. These are available for a reasonable price.
