The Capuchins introduced the devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes in 1890.
The canonically crowned image of Our Lady of Lourdes in the high grotto at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes (NSOLL) at Retiro Street Quezon City is the very same image that helped draw a large following shortly after she was placed in an altar inside the chapel located at 35-37 Palacio Street Intramuros. People were so taken with the exquisite sculpture of Manuel Flores with the assistance of Fr. Antonio of Valencia, OFMCap. They began to pray fervently, started to gain interest in the devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes which was well-known in Europe, and still unheard of in the Philippines.
Fast forward to 1993. The Archconfraternity celebrated the centenary of the devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes in the Philippines.
And on Saturday, May 22, 2021 new members will be installed during the 7:30 am Mass to be presided by the Rev. Fr. Cesar F. Acuin, OFMCap.
This pious organization devoted to the Blessed Virgin of Lourdes needs you to help preserve and continue the devotion for centuries to come.
The objectives of the Archconfraternity are based on solid church teachings and enduring values such as expressing love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin of Lourdes, keeping at heart her messages during the apparitions in Lourdes; attaining holiness and personal sanctification through works of mercy; the practice of prayer; uphold the virtues of honesty, sincerity, justice, kindness and courage; follow the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a mother and a model of a true Christian.
Plenary Indulgences may be gained under the ordinary conditions:
On the day of entrance to the Archconfraternity or confraternity.
On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception or one of the eight days after it.
On the Feast of Nativity, Annunciation, Purification and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
