Rev. Fr. Cesar Acuin,OFMCap is the Parish Priest of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes

“Awake, mankind! For your sake God has become man. Awake, you who sleep, rise up from the dead, and Christ will enlighten you. I tell you again: for your sake, God became man.”  – St. Augustine of Hippo

Today the Church is like a “voice crying out it the wilderness” calling the people of God to prepare for the Lord Jesus to enter once more into their hearts. Are we heeding this call?

Our Lord Jesus became man that all of us might be like Him.  He gave mankind a tremendous gift. God chose to become one of us!  This should move us to follow Him and become more like Him.

In this season of grace, are we spiritually preparing ourselves for His coming?  For instance, look deep into our hearts during moments of silence.  Do we have peace or are we weighed down by ill-feelings, resentments, and grudges?  In addition, are we anxious about the things that we want, rather than need. As a result, we forget that we are so wonderfully blessed?

If we answer “yes” to these questions, then let us humbly pray to the Lord that He may heal us and give us His peace!

Do we experience unity?  Do we feel united with our family members? Or are we cold or indifferent to them?   Are we united with our parish community?  Or do we go about our school or office work, indifferent with the people around us, especially those in need? If so let us ask our Lord Jesus to break down these barriers so that we may experience real unity this season.

Here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes we are a family.  We want to get to know one another and help one another grow in the Spirit as a true Christian community.  We keep in mind our Lord Jesus who came among us so that people may come to know God and serve Him.

Christmas is an opportune occasion for renewal. Blessings poured upon us during this season of grace give us the strength to be closer to God. Let us not allow these graces to pass us by. Let us fervently pray that we may have a deepening experience of peace and unity among ourselves.

Wishing you all the joy this Christmas!  God bless you and your family!
