Just in. His Holiness Pope Francis appoints Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle to the rank of Cardinal-Bishop, the highest rank within the College of Cardinals. The College of Cardinals has three ranks: cardinal deacons, cardinal priests, and cardinal bishops.

Cardinal bishops hold jurisdiction over a church in a suburb of Rome, while working in departments of the Roman Curia, the central administration of the church.

Cardinal Tagle’s appointment was made on May 1, the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. Incidentally, he was appointed to the top Vatican post last December 8, 2019, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.
