Last January 9, Saturday, the Capuchin brothers returned to Dinaraitan Tanay, Rizal, for the 3th time to distribute relief goods. Home to the Dumagats, an indigenous tribe that lives by the fringes of the Sierra Madre Mountains, this particular community severely suffered from the onslaught of super typhoon  Rolly with  winds up to 220 kph last October 29, 2020. And  followed closely by torrential rain from typhoon Ulysses, bringing  floods that ruthlessly demolished their homes and properties on November 10, 2020.

Together with the Capuchin brothers headed by Rev. Fr. Edgardo Martinez, OFMCap.  the Capuchin  Provincial Minister,  were the Hand-Based Foundation and the Young Franciscan Advocates from the parishes of San Jose Tagapagtanggol and Santa Clara. The youthful volunteers expressed interest in learning about the culture and traditions, as well as determine what they could do to help.

Bags of relief goods were distributed after an InterFranciscan Greccio Mass at the San Jose Aman Chapel.

The next relief operations are slated on Friday January 22 for 270 families, mostly from Dumagat Tribes of Tanay, Rizal  – Paydas, Masayo, Malibay, Bariwin and Makinabo,  and on Thursday, January 28, for the Dumagat Tribe of Sitio Tala.

The Capuchin Relief Operation is now moving towards the rehabilitation phase. In true Bayanihan spirit, the Dumagat communities will rebuild their homes and restore their farms together. Their immediate needs include food, farm tools, vegetable seeds, seedlings of fruit-bearing trees, plastic hoses for irrigation as well as water tanks to avoid water shortage and draught.  Monetary donations are welcome.
